Angers Mon 9th May 2015

A fortress and sumptuous residence overlooking the river Maine. There is history of Neolithic man settling on this site, as well as the Normans, Plantagenet's, Regent Blanche, 14th and 15th century Dukes, princes and troops, only to name a few. The main attraction for me was the Apocalypse tapestry on display in the castle. It is an illustration of the Apocalypse according to St John, the last text in the New Testment.
The original colours have faded but the tapestry is still vibrant in reds and blues.

Prior to entering the Angers Chateau, the tour took us to the Cathedral of St Maurice which had been built successfully without the support of the flying buttresses Notre Dame in Paris requires.
