Locks on the Main-Danube Canal

Just in the area there are 16 locks which raise/lower shipping over a total elevation of 400 feet. The second one after leaving Nuremberg was over 80 feet. For this biggie we were treated with champagne whislt the top decks railing had been re-erected, allowing us to use the top deck to witness the ship going through this lock.

There is little room between the sides of the ship and the walls of the lock, guessing to be about 4 inches on either side. The captain does a fantastic job lining up the ship before entering the lock.
