Day 52 Paris, France
Cultural, sophisticated, romance, wet, grey…..chic.
Bonjour. Although it rained for most of the day, I just loved what I have seen, tasted, smelt and heard. What a civilized city with class. Well, a trendsetting city which I definitely would like to come back to stay a lot longer, maybe a week or two…..no maybe 6 months, that is if we had the money.
The bus trip into Paris from Le Harve took 2 hours and believe it or not, I had my first nap on a bus trip! We have three days in a row coming up and I am not sure if another nap eventuates! The road took us past some very impressive farmland, then we went through a couple of tunnels and we were in the city of Paris! Good roads here. First stop was the Eiffel Tower. It rained from Le Harve all the way into Paris and whilst in Paris, it generally rained on and off. Our tour consisted of a drive through the city, seeing most of the attractions before boarding a river boat for a leisurely cruise along the Seine passing Palais de Chailet, Eiffel Tower, Musc'e c'Orsay, the Louvre, Notre dame Cathedral, Statue of Liberty and lots more. We had a three course meal and choice of red or white wine, whilst a talented singer sang a medley of French songs.
After our superb cruise (and plenty of the red and white liquid) we were taken to the Galleries Lafayette, an historic department store just behind the Opera House. It has stunning steel and glass domed roof. We visited the observation deck on the 7th floor to take in the sweeping views of the city whilst it wasn't raining. The store had 40% off then another 20% off their fashion wear….and guess who got themselves a formal top? Au revoir.
