Day 46 Barcelona, Spain
Our first Princess Tour. We toured the city highlights and La Sangrada Familia on a bus with 36 other passengers. We waited with the other 500 odd people in the Princess Theatre before everyone disembarked the ship to board their appropriate bus. Highlights of the city included a drive past the Christopher Columbus obelisk, a drive past the 1992 Olympic Village, Las Ramblas (a 1.5 km tree lined walk through the old city to the port), and Mont Juic (a hill overlooking the port).
A tour of the Gaudi, La Sangrada Familia Cathedral was the real highlight of our trip to Barcelona. Unfinished after a century, the awe-inspiring building with its massive spires is still being built to Gaudi's models. Completion date is expected to be around 2050. Last year Pope Benedict XVI declared the basilica a holy place to worship.
The construction is going on due to the support of the faithful, friends and visitors to the tune of 20 million Euros a year!
After Paul took a photo of me in the Cathedral, he was cacking himself, and of course I wanted to know what caused him to laugh so much. He had made sure the hallo of the church was centred over my head……yeah funny!
Whilst we were in Barcelona, a World Rally for the Harley Davidson Enthusiasts occurred. There were Harleys everywhere. Our guide mentioned over 20,000 bikers were in Barcelona to participate.
The bus left us at the terminal after our 4 hour tour. The Duty Free Shops did a roaring trade, selling beer and wine. Each passenger on board over the age of 18 years is allowed to bring on board either one bottle of wine or 6 cans of beer at every port! We have enjoyed some really pleasant wines from the different ports we have visited.
After 5 ports in 5 days we are happy to look forward to a sea day tomorrow. We might even get in a floor show before bed tomorrow night! It has been hectic but brilliant.
