Hong Kong 29th Aug 2018

Hong Kong

After two sea days sailing from Busan, South Korea we sail into Hong Kong harbour having skirted a typhoon in the East China Sea. Initially when leaving Busan our Captain had the Majestic Princess sailing at 21 knots to avoid most of the effects of the typhoon and once sea conditions deteriorated, the stabilizers came out and the ship's speed reduced. Though I must admit we noticed very little change of conditions. The same grey, misty/rainy view from our balcony. Even sailing into Hong Kong the greyness and rain still prevailed.

I joined our friends from Adelaide for an exploration of Hong Kong using the public transport of the areas. Firstly a free shuttle bus provided by a local shopping centre, then onto the mostly underground trains to Hong Hong Island and around the 'back' to Stanley Markets. Whilst we were walking around the markets and esplanade the rain held off and it wasn't until we were walking to the bus stop to return that it started to rain, then pour once we were on board the number 6 bus to Central Station.

From Central we boarded two different trains back to the shopping centre, then onto the free shuttle and back to the ship. The worst part of the travel was the nearly hour wait in the queue for the shuttle. There also happened to be another cruise ship in at our terminal which increased the number of passengers waiting to board the bus.

A great day exploring Hong Kong independently.
